The term refers to materials or processes subjected to elevated temperatures, typically above 600 degrees Celsius (1,112 degrees Fahrenheit), to alter their physical, chemical, or mechanical properties.

In metallurgy, high-temperature treatment is commonly applied to metals and alloys to enhance their strength, durability, and resistance to wear or corrosion. For instance, high-temperature annealing or heat treatment processes are used to refine grain structure, relieve internal stresses, or improve machinability.
