Hjulrotation

Hjulrotation, often translated as wheel rotation, refers to the practice of moving wheels on a vehicle between different positions on the same axle or between different axles. This process is primarily done to promote even tire wear. Tires wear down at different rates due to factors such as vehicle weight distribution, steering angles, and braking forces. By rotating the wheels, tires that experience more wear can be moved to positions where wear is typically less severe, extending the overall lifespan of the tire set.

The frequency of wheel rotation is generally recommended by vehicle manufacturers and tire manufacturers. It is often suggested to perform this service every 5,000 to 7,500 miles (8,000 to 12,000 kilometers). There are several common rotation patterns, depending on whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or has directional or non-directional tires. For example, in a front-wheel drive vehicle, the front tires might be moved to the rear axle, while the rear tires are moved to the opposite side of the front axle.

Beyond promoting even wear, regular wheel rotation can also contribute to a smoother ride and improved handling. Unevenly worn tires can cause vibrations and make the vehicle pull to one side. By ensuring consistent wear, the overall performance and safety of the vehicle can be maintained. It is a relatively simple maintenance task that can significantly benefit the longevity and performance of tires.
