Hjerteklapp

Hjerteklapp is a Norwegian word that translates to "palpitations" in English. It refers to the sensation of the heart beating unusually or forcefully. This can manifest as a racing heartbeat, fluttering, pounding, or skipping beats. Hjerteklapp is a symptom, not a disease itself, and can be caused by a variety of factors.

Common triggers for hjerteklapp include stress, anxiety, fear, and excitement. Physical exertion can also lead to a temporary increase in heart rate that some might perceive as hjerteklapp. Certain substances are known to cause palpitations, such as caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and some medications, including decongestants and asthma inhalers.

In some cases, hjerteklapp can be a sign of an underlying medical condition. These can include heart rhythm abnormalities like atrial fibrillation or supraventricular tachycardia, as well as thyroid problems, anemia, or low blood sugar.
