Hjartsláttartruflanir, also known as cardiac arrhythmias, refer to irregular heart rhythms. The heart's electrical system controls the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. When this system malfunctions, the heart may beat too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia), or with an irregular pattern.

Treatment depends on the type and severity of the arrhythmia, as well as its cause and associated symptoms. Options include medications to control heart rate or rhythm, lifestyle modifications, cardioversion (using electrical shock), catheter ablation (a procedure to correct electrical pathways), and the implantation of pacemakers or defibrillators.
