Hiukkasmaaran

Hiukkasmaaran is a Finnish-language term used to describe a group or swarm of particles that behave collectively. It is a descriptive expression rather than a formal, internationally defined concept in physics.

In aerosol and colloid physics, a hiukkasmaaran can refer to a cloud of solid or liquid particles suspended in a gas or liquid; in plasma physics, a dusty plasma containing micron-sized particles can form a hiukkasmaaran that moves and interacts under electric and magnetic fields; in astrophysics or planetary science, clusters of dust grains in disks or nebulae may be described as hiukkasmaaran for explanatory purposes. In education and popular science, the term is used to illustrate how small constituents respond to external forces and collective interactions.
