Hiluka

Hiluka is a plateau in the southern part of the Ballatar Mountains in Ethiopia. It is situated approximately 480 kilometers south of the capital city, Addis Ababa. The plateau is bounded by the Bilate River to the north and the Omorategoon River to the south.

Geologically, Hiluka is composed of volcanic rocks and alluvial deposits. The area is home to several volcanic cones, including the prominent Kobo Arrei volcano. The plateau has an average elevation of about 1,900 meters above sea level, with some areas reaching as high as 2,000 meters.

The climate in Hiluka is generally tropical due to its location near the equator. The plateau experiences two main seasons: a dry season from December to March, and a wet season from June to September. The area receives an average annual rainfall of about 600 millimeters.

Human settlement in the area dates back to ancient times. Archaeological findings suggest that the region was inhabited by various ethnic groups, including the Ari and Karrayu people. Today, the Hiluka plateau is home to several rural communities, who engage in subsistence farming and livestock herding.

In recent years, Hiluka has gained some attention due to its potential for mining and natural resource extraction. Several companies have been granted licenses to explore and extract minerals in the area, including copper, gold, and other valuable deposits. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential environmental and social impacts of such activities on the local communities and ecosystem.
