Hiekkavalussa is a Finnish term that translates to "sand casting" in English. It refers to a common method of metal casting where a mold is created using sand. This process is widely used for producing a variety of metal parts, from intricate components to large structural elements, across numerous industries.

The sand casting process typically involves several key steps. First, a pattern, which is a replica of the desired part, is created. This pattern is then pressed into a molding sand mixture, leaving an impression that forms the mold cavity. The sand is often bound together with clay or other binding agents to ensure it holds its shape. For more complex shapes, cores made of sand are used to create internal cavities or passages within the cast part. Once the mold is prepared, molten metal is poured into the cavity.
