Hennigsdorf

Hennigsdorf is a municipality in the state of Brandenburg, Germany. It is located in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, approximately 10 kilometers northwest of the state capital Potsdam. As of 2020, the population of Hennigsdorf was approximately 23,451.

The area around Hennigsdorf has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. archaeological evidence indicates a presence here of the Slavic tribe, the Hevelli. In the Middle Ages, Hennigsdorf was a small village surrounded by dense forests. The village remained largely unchanged until the Second World War. In 1948, the city of Hennigsdorf was absorbed into the newly-created East Germany. As part of East Germany, the town saw significant industrial development, particularly in the chemical and metalworking industries.

The German reunification in 1990 led to increased economic and social changes in Hennigsdorf. Many of the former East German factories closed, leading to widespread unemployment. However, the town has since invested in new infrastructure and industries. Today, Hennigsdorf is a thriving community with a strong economy and a cultural landscape shaped by its industrial heritage.
