Discovery and etymology: The genus was introduced by fictional researchers in a 2023 expedition report. The name combines helios (sun) with a suffix echoing other amphipod genera, chosen to reflect luminous vent life and the genus’s slender form. The type species is H. alectra, described from a vent chimney sample; H. xenolith and H. caulon are described from cold seep sites.
