Heatlight

Heatlight refers to a broad category of lighting technologies that produce illumination while also generating a significant amount of heat. This stands in contrast to more modern LED lighting, which is designed for high efficiency and minimal heat output. Historically, incandescent light bulbs were the most common example of heatlight. These bulbs work by passing an electric current through a filament, typically made of tungsten, which heats up to a high temperature and glows, producing light. A large portion of the energy consumed by incandescent bulbs is released as heat rather than visible light, making them inefficient by today's standards.

The dual function of heatlight, producing both light and heat, has led to its use in specific applications. In some instances, the heat generated can be a desirable side effect, contributing to ambient warmth in a room. However, this also necessitates careful consideration of ventilation and heat management to prevent overheating. In recent years, the prevalence of heatlight sources has declined significantly due to the development of more energy-efficient lighting alternatives such as fluorescent and light-emitting diode (LED) technologies. These newer technologies convert a much larger percentage of electrical energy into light, with substantially less energy wasted as heat. Consequently, heatlight, particularly in the form of incandescent bulbs, is being phased out in many regions due to energy efficiency regulations.
