Havnebadet

Havnebadet, meaning "harbor bath" in Danish, refers to a type of urban swimming facility found in harbor areas of various Danish cities. These facilities are designed to make swimming accessible and safe within formerly industrial or commercial harbor basins, transforming them into recreational spaces. Typically, Havnebadet consists of several enclosed swimming areas, often with different depths, set up within the harbor water. Floating pontoons and wooden decks usually surround these pools, providing areas for sunbathing, lounging, and entry/exit points.

The concept gained significant traction in Copenhagen, with the first public harbor bath opening in Islands Brygge in 2002. This initiative was part of a broader effort to clean up the city's waters and integrate nature and recreation into the urban environment. Since then, similar harbor baths have been established in other locations, such as Fisketorvet and, more recently, in areas like Nordhavn. These facilities are generally free to access and are popular among locals and tourists alike, especially during the summer months.

Havnebadet installations often adhere to strict water quality standards, with regular testing ensuring the water is safe for swimming.
