Határértékfeladatok, also known as boundary value problems, are a type of differential equation problem where the solution is determined by its values at the boundaries of a domain. Unlike initial value problems, where the solution is specified at a single point, boundary value problems require conditions to be met at multiple points, typically the endpoints of an interval.

These problems arise in various scientific and engineering disciplines. For instance, in heat transfer, a boundary value problem might describe the temperature distribution in an object where the temperatures at the object's surfaces are known. Similarly, in mechanics, the deflection of a beam under load can be modeled as a boundary value problem, with constraints on the beam's ends.

The mathematical formulation of a boundary value problem involves a differential equation along with specified conditions at the boundaries. These conditions can be of different types, such as Dirichlet conditions (specifying the function's value at the boundary), Neumann conditions (specifying the derivative of the function at the boundary), or Robin conditions (a combination of the function and its derivative).

Solving boundary value problems can be more complex than initial value problems. Analytical solutions exist for some simpler cases, often involving techniques like separation of variables or Fourier series. However, for more complicated problems, numerical methods are frequently employed. These methods discretize the domain and approximate the solution at various points, using techniques such as finite difference methods or finite element methods. The existence and uniqueness of solutions for boundary value problems depend on the specific differential equation and the nature of the boundary conditions.
