Határrétegegyenletek refers to the mathematical concept of singular perturbation in differential equations. These equations are characterized by a small parameter that multiplies the highest-order derivative terms. When this parameter approaches zero, the order of the differential equation effectively decreases, leading to a simplification of the problem.

The challenge with singular perturbation problems lies in the fact that the solution of the simplified (or reduced) equation may not accurately approximate the solution of the original equation, particularly in certain regions of the domain. These regions are known as boundary layers or singular layers. Within these layers, the solution can change very rapidly.

The theory of singular perturbation provides methods to analyze and approximate solutions for these problems. Techniques such as asymptotic expansions are commonly employed. These methods often involve constructing separate approximations for the region outside the boundary layer (the outer solution) and the region within the boundary layer (the inner solution). A composite solution is then formed by combining these approximations to achieve a uniformly valid representation across the entire domain.

Singular perturbation problems arise in various scientific and engineering disciplines, including fluid dynamics, chemical kinetics, control theory, and electrical circuit analysis. Understanding and solving these equations is crucial for accurately modeling and predicting the behavior of complex systems where different time or spatial scales interact.
