Harujets

Harujets is a research organization located in Oslo, Norway, that specializes in the development of advanced photovoltaic materials and grid integration technologies. The organization was founded in 2014 by a group of engineers and material scientists from the University of Oslo and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Its mission is to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy through innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology transfer to industry partners.

The core of Harujets’ work focuses on perovskite-based solar cells, tandem solar cells combining silicon and perovskite, and micro-scale power electronics for distributed generation. In addition to laboratory research, the institute maintains a small pilot plant in Lillestrøm that tests the durability of new cell architectures under realistic operating conditions. The research team has published over 60 peer‑reviewed papers in international journals such as Advanced Energy Materials and Nature Energy.

Notable projects include the “Hybrid Grid‑Integration Platform” funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, which demonstrates the seamless coupling of large-scale solar farms with battery storage systems. Another initiative, “Carbon‑Neutral Perovskite”, seeks to reduce the carbon footprint of perovskite fabrication by using green solvents and recyclable substrates. In 2020, Harujets entered a partnership with the Norwegian electricity grid operator Hydro, to test smart inverters across Norway’s rural networks.

Funding for Harujets comes primarily from public sources, including the Norwegian Research Council, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, and EU structural funds. The organization also receives in‑kind support from industry partners such as Økokrim and Vattenfall’s research arm. Harujets continues to play a key role in Norway’s transition to a low‑carbon energy system, providing both scientific advances and practical solutions for deploying renewable technologies at scale.
