Harpoon
A harpoon is a spear-like implement used to impale and secure large marine animals, especially whales, seals, and large fish. A typical harpoon consists of a long shaft with a sharp head designed to attach to the target, often with barbs or a detachable tip, and a length of line or tether attached to the shooter or vessel. Harpoons may be thrown by hand or fired from a launcher or gun, and the line allows the hunter to restrain the animal as it struggles.
Historically, harpoons have been used by maritime cultures for centuries. Early forms relied on rigid blades
Today, harpoons are most closely associated with whaling, but they are also used in some traditional fisheries
Regulation and ethics: Whaling practices and the use of harpoons are subject to regulation in many countries
