Harmonisches

Harmonisches is the adjective form of the German term harmonisch and is used in various fields to denote harmony, regularity, or periodicity. In science and engineering, it frequently appears with concepts of harmonic motion and resonance, and is closely linked to systems described by simple harmonic motion.

In physics, a common example is the harmonic oscillator, described by the equation m d^2x/dt^2 = -k x. Its solutions are sinusoidal with angular frequency ω = sqrt(k/m), and the energy is proportional to the square of the amplitude. In statistics, das harmonische Mittel (harmonic mean) is a type of average defined by H = n / Σ(1/x_i). It is particularly useful for averaging rates or ratios, such as speeds over a fixed distance.
