Hallásveszteség

Hallásveszteség, or hearing loss, is a decrease in the ability to hear or detect sound. It can be caused by various factors, including genetic predisposition, exposure to loud noise, certain medications, or age-related changes. There are three main types of hearing loss: sensorineural, conductive, and mixed.

Sensorineural hearing loss occurs when there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea) or the auditory nerve. This type is typically permanent and can be caused by aging, noise exposure, certain medications, or genetic factors. Conductive hearing loss occurs when sound is not conducted efficiently through the outer or middle ear. This can be due to earwax blockage, fluid in the middle ear, or a perforated eardrum. Mixed hearing loss is a combination of sensorineural and conductive hearing loss.

Hearing loss can be temporary or permanent, and it can affect one or both ears. It can also be unilateral (one ear) or bilateral (both ears). The degree of hearing loss is typically measured in decibels (dB) and can range from mild to profound.

Early detection and intervention can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with hearing loss. Treatment options may include hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices. Additionally, speech therapy and auditory training can help individuals with hearing loss develop strategies to compensate for their loss.

Preventive measures include avoiding exposure to loud noise, wearing protective ear gear in noisy environments, and maintaining good overall health. Regular hearing screenings can also help detect hearing loss early, allowing for timely intervention.
