Halalruokasäännöt

Halalruokasäännöt refer to the dietary guidelines prescribed by Islamic law, Sharia. These rules dictate what foods are permissible for Muslims to consume and how they should be prepared. The fundamental principle is that food must be "halal," meaning lawful or permissible.

The most well-known rule concerns the prohibition of pork and its by-products. Muslims are also forbidden from consuming alcohol and other intoxicants. Blood, carrion (animals that died of natural causes or disease), and animals not slaughtered in accordance with Islamic rites are also considered haram, or forbidden.

The method of slaughter is crucial for meat to be considered halal. The animal must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter, and the slaughterer, who must be a Muslim, must recite the name of God (Allah) at the time of the cut. The animal's throat is then severed with a swift, deep incision using a sharp knife, draining the blood. This process is believed to ensure a humane death and purifies the meat.

Fish and seafood are generally considered halal without specific slaughter requirements, as are most plant-based foods. However, cross-contamination with haram ingredients during preparation or cooking must be avoided. Many food products, especially processed ones, are certified as halal by recognized organizations to assure consumers of their compliance with the rules. These certifications help Muslims navigate the complexities of modern food production.
