Hadarmis

Hadarmis was a legendary figure in ancient Greek mythology, primarily known for his role in the myth of the Argonauts. According to tradition, he was the son of King Minos of Crete and his daughter Pasiphaë, though some accounts vary, placing his lineage with other figures such as King Aeacus or the god Poseidon. Hadarmis was often described as a skilled warrior and a companion of the hero Jason during his quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece.

The most famous account of Hadarmis appears in the Argonautica of Apollonius of Rhodes, a Hellenistic epic poem. During the voyage of the Argo, Hadarmis was among the crew as they sailed through the straits of the Bosphorus. He was killed by the giant Scylla, a monstrous sea creature with multiple heads and tentacles, who was later associated with the straits' perilous waters. His death was mourned by the Argonauts, and his name became synonymous with the dangers of that passage.

Hadarmis is also referenced in other classical sources, including the Library of History by Pseudo-Apollodorus, where he is sometimes listed among the heroes who accompanied Jason. His mythological significance lies in his role as a symbol of the perils faced by the Argonauts, emphasizing the challenges of their epic journey. While not as prominently featured as other figures like Heracles or Orpheus, Hadarmis remains a notable part of Greek mythological lore, representing both bravery and the tragic fate that befell many of the heroes of antiquity.
