HDs

HDS is an acronym for Hitachi Data Systems, a multinational enterprise data storage company that operated as a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. The company specialized in data storage hardware, software, and related services for business and government clients, offering storage arrays, data management software, disaster recovery, backup, and cloud integration solutions.

Founded in the late 1980s, HDS grew to serve customers worldwide with products ranging from midrange to high-end storage systems. Its flagship family included the Universal Storage Platform (USP) and other storage arrays, along with software for data protection, replication, and virtualization. The company also provided professional services, consulting, and support.

In 2017, Hitachi Data Systems was integrated into Hitachi Vantara, a consolidated brand formed to unify Hitachi's data storage, analytics, and edge-to-cloud offerings. The HDS brand was retired, and its technology and product lines continued under the Hitachi Vantara banner, contributing to storage and data-management solutions within the new company.
