HDR processing, short for High Dynamic Range processing, is a technique used in digital imaging to enhance the range of luminance values in an image. This allows for greater detail in both the brightest highlights and the darkest shadows, which is often difficult to capture with standard cameras due to their limited dynamic range. The process involves capturing multiple exposures of the same scene at different settings, typically one underexposed, one normally exposed, and one overexposed. These images are then merged together, with the software intelligently selecting the best-exposed parts from each to create a single image with a much wider dynamic range.
