Häufigkeitsinterpretation

The Häufigkeitsinterpretation, or frequency interpretation, is a philosophical and statistical approach to understanding probability. It defines the probability of an event as the relative frequency with which that event occurs in a large number of trials or observations. This interpretation is often contrasted with other views like the classical interpretation (based on equally likely outcomes) and the subjective interpretation (based on personal belief).

Under the Häufigkeitsinterpretation, probability is not an inherent property of a single event, but rather a characteristic of a repeatable process. For instance, the probability of a fair coin landing on heads is understood as the proportion of times heads appears if the coin is flipped an indefinitely large number of times. The accuracy of the probability estimate increases with the number of trials conducted. This interpretation is widely used in scientific experiments and statistical analysis where data can be collected and analyzed. However, it faces challenges when dealing with unique or non-repeatable events, such as the probability of a specific historical event occurring.
