Gáztisztítás, or gas purification, refers to the processes used to remove impurities from a gas stream. This is a crucial step in many industrial applications, environmental protection, and the production of high-purity gases. The specific impurities targeted and the methods employed depend heavily on the gas being purified and its intended use.

Common impurities found in gas streams include particulate matter, water vapor, sulfur compounds like hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon oxides (CO and CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and various other contaminants. The presence of these impurities can lead to equipment corrosion, catalyst poisoning, reduced product quality, and environmental pollution.

Various techniques are used for gas purification. Physical methods include filtration for removing solid particles and condensation for removing water vapor. Chemical methods involve reactions that convert impurities into less harmful or easily separable substances. Adsorption is another common technique where impurities are captured on the surface of a solid adsorbent material, such as activated carbon or molecular sieves. Absorption, or scrubbing, involves passing the gas through a liquid solvent that selectively dissolves and removes the impurities. For example, acid gases like H2S and CO2 are often removed using alkaline solutions.

The choice of purification method is determined by factors such as the type and concentration of impurities, the required purity level of the gas, flow rate, temperature, pressure, and economic considerations. Effective gas purification is essential for meeting stringent environmental regulations, ensuring the efficiency and longevity of industrial processes, and producing gases suitable for sensitive applications like semiconductor manufacturing or medical use.
