Gynecoctomy

Gynecoctomy is a surgical procedure to remove excess breast tissue in males. This condition, known as gynecomastia, can cause significant distress and affect self-esteem. The surgery aims to correct the appearance of enlarged male breasts by reducing the size and improving the contour of the chest.

There are various causes for gynecomastia, including hormonal imbalances, certain medications, obesity, and age-related changes. In some cases, the condition may resolve on its own. However, when it persists or is severe, surgical intervention is considered.

Gynecoctomy can be performed using different techniques depending on the extent of tissue to be removed. For cases with minimal excess tissue, liposuction may be sufficient to remove fat. If there is a significant amount of glandular tissue or excess skin, a surgical excision may be necessary, which may involve an incision around the areola or a more extensive chest wall incision. The choice of technique is determined by the surgeon based on the individual patient's anatomy and needs.

The recovery period varies, but most patients can return to normal activities within a few weeks. Swelling and bruising are common post-operatively and are managed with compression garments. Potential risks associated with the procedure, as with any surgery, include infection, bleeding, and changes in nipple sensation. The goal of gynecoctomy is to achieve a more masculine chest contour.
