Gupteshwor

Gupteshwor Cave, also known as Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, is a natural limestone cave in Pokhara, Nepal, located in the Kaski District within Gandaki Province. It lies in the Pokhara Valley, just a short distance from the city center and near the popular Davis Falls tourist site.

The cave is the site of a shrine to Lord Shiva, which gives the cave its name; Gupteshwor translates as "Hidden Lord." A Shivalinga is enshrined inside a back chamber, accessible via a narrow passage. The main chamber features stalactites and stalagmites formed over geological time. An underground stream and a waterfall flow inside the cave, emptying into a pool at the cave floor, producing a continuous humid climate and cool air.

As a major visitor attraction, Gupteshwor Cave is often visited alongside Davis Falls. Access is via a stepped path with artificial lighting; visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be mindful of damp surfaces. The site holds religious significance for Hindus and is a site of pilgrimage, particularly during auspicious occasions such as Maha Shivaratri.

Efforts have been made to preserve the cave and manage tourist flow; visitors should respect the site and local guidelines.
