Gummikappen

Gummikappen, literally “rubber caps” in German, is a generic term used to describe small protective caps made of rubber that are fitted onto the ends of various objects. They serve to seal, cushion, insulate, or simply cover protruding ends, and the term covers a wide range of shapes and sizes.

Common applications include furniture leg caps to protect floors and reduce noise, end caps for hoses or tubes to prevent fraying or moisture ingress, and dust or protective caps for electrical connectors and hardware. They are also used on tools, sporting equipment, and machinery to prevent injury from sharp edges or to dampen impact.

Materials and designs vary. Gummikappen may be made from natural rubber, EPDM, silicone, or nitrile, depending on environmental resistance and elasticity. They can be solid or hollow, with inner bores to fit on a rod or tube, or simply slip over a diameter. Finishes range from smooth to ribbed for grip; colors can indicate size or function.

Production methods include injection molding for mass-produced caps and extrusion for continuous profiles that are cut to length. They are manufactured to fit standard dimensions or custom specifications and are often sold by hardware suppliers, industrial distributors, or as OEM parts.
