Gulpersea
Gulpersea is a fictional genus of deep-sea anglerfish, notable for its extremely large, distensible jaws and luminescent esca. The genus was first described in the scientific literature in 2005, based on specimens collected from the abyssal plains of the Pacific Ocean. Gulpersea fish are characterized by their disproportionately large heads, which can account for up to a third of their total body length. Their mouths are equipped with long, needle-like teeth that curve inward, preventing prey from escaping.
The esca, a bioluminescent lure that dangles from a modified dorsal fin ray (the illicium), is believed
