The term refers to both the urban core and the surrounding rural districts that together form the Griceic Confederacy. The setting is used to explore topics such as governance, trade, and cultural identity in a maritime context.

Geography and climate: Gricei sits on the island of Nereis, with a crescent harbor, mangrove fringes, and limestone hills. The climate is tropical maritime, with a wet season from May to November and moderate year-round temperatures. The harbor, Port Aster, handles fishing fleets and light shipping.

History and politics: Gricei traces its origins to coastal clans of the 11th century and later united under a constitutional framework. In the 18th and 19th centuries it expanded through trade alliances and shipbuilding. It became a semi-autonomous member of the Griceic Confederacy in the 20th century, adopting a constitutional republic in the late 1990s. The government features a President as head of state and a bicameral legislature consisting of the Senate and the People’s Assembly.
