Grammatikkomplexität refers to the intricate nature of a language's grammatical system. It encompasses various aspects, including the number of grammatical categories, the complexity of their inflectional systems, sentence structure, and the degree of irregularity found within the grammar. A language with high grammatical complexity might feature a large number of tenses, moods, cases, or genders, and these features may be realized through extensive and sometimes unpredictable morphological changes.

Conversely, languages with lower grammatical complexity may have fewer inflected forms, more regular patterns, and simpler syntactic structures. For instance, languages with analytic grammatical structures, like Mandarin Chinese, tend to exhibit less morphological complexity compared to highly synthetic languages, such as Finnish or Turkish, where grammatical relations are often expressed through affixes attached to words.

The concept of grammatical complexity is a subject of ongoing debate in linguistics. Different methodologies exist for measuring it, and there is no universal consensus on which features contribute most significantly to it. Factors such as the presence of grammatical gender, the system of verb conjugations, the number of noun cases, and the rules governing word order are all considered. The perceived complexity can also be influenced by a learner's linguistic background.
