Gproteinikytkeytyvä
Gproteinikytkeytyvä, often translated as G protein-coupled, refers to a class of transmembrane receptors that play a crucial role in cellular signal transduction. These receptors are characterized by their ability to interact with intracellular G proteins. When a signaling molecule, such as a hormone or neurotransmitter, binds to the extracellular portion of a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), it causes a conformational change in the receptor. This change, in turn, allows the receptor to interact with and activate a specific type of G protein located on the inner side of the cell membrane.
Activated G proteins then act as molecular switches, initiating a cascade of downstream events within the cell.
