Govorít is a term used in linguistic theory and in discussions of conversation analysis to denote the act of initiating and sustaining spoken discourse in interactive settings. Although the word resembles forms found in Slavic languages, its use in this context is theoretical and cross-linguistic. As a concept, govorít encompasses the routines speakers deploy to start speaking, signal readiness, manage turn-taking, and maintain dialogue through prosody, discourse markers, and timing.

Origin and orthography are theoretical rather than tied to a single language. The name comes from a root comparable to the Slavic "govorit," meaning "to speak," with a fictional suffix "-ít" used in this framework to label the action itself. In many descriptions, the acute accent on í is employed to indicate a high tone or stressed final syllable in the invented orthography, signaling emphasis that accompanies the initiation of speech.

Operationally, govorít is analyzed by examining how speakers prepare to speak, how they cue listeners, and how they synchronize contributions.
