Gotokuji
Gotokuji is a Buddhist temple located in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan. It is most famously known as the birthplace of the maneki-neko, the beckoning cat figurine. The temple's legend states that in the 17th century, a temple priest rescued a cat and, after its death, dedicated a statue to it. This statue is believed to have inspired the creation of the maneki-neko.
The temple grounds feature a large number of maneki-neko statues, brought by visitors as offerings or souvenirs.
