Gonadotropinejas, also known as gonadotropins, are a group of hormones that play a crucial role in reproductive health. These hormones are primarily produced by the anterior pituitary gland in both males and females. The two main gonadotropins are follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).

In females, FSH stimulates the growth and development of ovarian follicles, which are small sacs containing immature eggs. As follicles mature, they produce estrogen. LH then triggers ovulation, the release of a mature egg from the ovary, and promotes the formation of the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone. These hormones are essential for the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.

In males, FSH stimulates the production of sperm in the testes. LH, on the other hand, stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone, the primary male sex hormone. Testosterone is vital for the development of male secondary sexual characteristics and sperm production.

The production of gonadotropins is regulated by gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which is secreted by the hypothalamus. This intricate feedback loop ensures that hormone levels are appropriately balanced for reproductive functions. Disruptions in gonadotropin levels can lead to infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, and other reproductive issues. Medical interventions often involve administering synthetic gonadotropins to stimulate ovulation or improve sperm production.
