Glycidylryhmä

Glycidylryhmä, also known as a glycidyl group, is a functional group in organic chemistry characterized by an epoxide ring attached to a methylene group. Its chemical formula is CH2(C2H3O). This group is derived from glycidol, which is 2,3-epoxy-1-propanol. The defining feature of the glycidyl group is its strained three-membered epoxide ring, which contains an oxygen atom bonded to two carbon atoms.

The reactivity of the glycidyl group is primarily due to the strain in the epoxide ring. This strain makes the ring susceptible to nucleophilic attack, leading to ring-opening reactions.
