Geçmite
Geçmite is a rare germanium-rich oxide mineral described from hydrothermal veins in the Geç region of eastern Turkey. The name derives from the locality. It is characterized by a composition dominated by germanium and oxygen, with minor substitutions of iron, titanium, and silicon. Geçmite crystallizes in the monoclinic system and most commonly forms slender to prismatic crystals that are yellow to olive in color, with a resinous to adamantine luster. The mineral is transparent to translucent and has a relatively high hardness, about 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. In hand specimen, it shows weak pleochroism and a notably high refractive index. The estimated specific gravity is in the range of 6.1 to 6.5.
Geçmite occurs in late-stage hydrothermal veins within granitic rocks, typically in association with quartz, cassiterite, wolframite,
Etymology and classification: The name Geçmite honors the Geç locality and follows the -ite suffix common to
