Geshurites
The Geshurites were an ancient people mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as inhabitants of the region of Geshur, located in the northwestern part of the land of Israel. Ancient sources identify Geshur as a city or territory near Gilead, along the eastern side of the Jordan River, and sometimes associate it with the town of Aijalon or the plains surrounding it. Linguistic analysis suggests the name derives from the Semitic root G-S-R, meaning “to inhabit” or “to dwell.”
