Gesamtbreite

Gesamtbreite is a German term meaning total or overall width. It denotes the distance between the outermost points of an object measured perpendicular to its length, including any protrusions or attachments that extend laterally. It is commonly used in product specifications, vehicle data, and building or component plans.

In automotive contexts, Gesamtbreite often includes side mirrors and other exterior projections. Some specifications distinguish between Gesamtbreite with mirrors and Gesamtbreite without mirrors. The value affects handling, aerodynamics, parking, and compliance with road-traffic regulations.

Measurement and standards: The measurement is taken on a horizontal plane along the widest points, usually with the object placed on a level surface. Tolerances and deformation under load can affect the result. Legal limits for overall width vary by country and vehicle category; route and transport planning also rely on these measurements.
