Geositta
Geositta is a genus of birds in the ovenbird family, Furnariidae. These birds are commonly known as minerbirds and are found in South America. The genus was first described by French ornithologist Alcide d'Orbigny in 1840. The name Geositta is derived from the Greek words "geo" meaning earth and "sitta" meaning nuthatch, referring to their terrestrial habits and resemblance to nuthatches in their foraging behavior.
