Genus1

Genus1 is a small genus of flowering plants in the family Lamiaceae. It comprises several perennial herbs native to temperate regions of Eurasia. The genus has undergone revisions since its original description, with some species added and others moved to related genera as new data became available.

Members of genus1 have opposite leaves and square stems, characteristics typical of the Lamiaceae. They produce bilabiate flowers in dense inflorescences. The corolla colors range from blue to purple, and the flowers have a two-lipped appearance. The fruit is a schizocarp that splits into four nutlets.

As of current classifications, genus1 includes three described species: genus1 alba, genus1 purpurea, and genus1 montana. These species differ mainly in floral coloration and habitat preference, but share the general morphological pattern described above.

Distribution and ecology: Genus1 taxa occur in woodlands, meadows, and rocky slopes across temperate Eurasia, from low elevations to montane regions. They are generally pollinated by bees and hoverflies, and seeds are dispersed locally by gravity and short-distance wind. Several species produce aromatic essential oils and have been used in traditional herbal preparations.

Taxonomy and phylogeny: The name and circumscription of genus1 have evolved with advances in morphological and molecular studies. Current work aims to clarify species boundaries within the genus and its relationships to closely related genera within the family.
