Gentharic

Gentharic is a brand name for gentamycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Gentamycin is used to treat a variety of serious bacterial infections. It works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to produce essential proteins, which ultimately leads to their death. Gentharic is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly, and its use is generally reserved for moderate to severe infections that are susceptible to this class of antibiotics.

The spectrum of activity for gentamycin includes many Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria. It is often used in combination with other antibiotics, such as penicillins or cephalosporins, to achieve a broader range of coverage or to enhance the killing effect, particularly against certain types of bacteria like enterococci.
