Genomtype

Genomtype is a term occasionally used in genetics and genomics to denote the genome-wide genetic constitution of an organism, cell line, or clone. It encompasses the complete set of genetic variants and structural features that characterize a genome, including single-nucleotide polymorphisms, insertions and deletions, copy-number variations, gene content, and the arrangement of elements such as mobile genetic elements. The term is not widely standardized and may be used as a synonym for genotype or as a broader description of a genome’s organization.

In practice, genomtype can be used in microbial typing, where researchers classify strains based on entire genome variation rather than a small set of loci, or in cancer genomics to describe a tumor’s genome-wide profile, including mutation signatures, copy-number alterations, and structural rearrangements. In population and evolutionary genomics, genomtype can refer to the ancestral and derived genome configurations of individuals within a population.
