Genomját

Genomját is a Hungarian grammatical form meaning “its genome” and is used when the genome of a specific subject is the definite direct object of a verb. It is formed from the noun genom (genome) plus the third-person singular possessive suffix (-ja/-je) and the definite direct-object suffix (-t). The result is genomját, which marks both possession and definiteness on the object.

The base term genom is a loanword adopted in Hungarian from the scientific word genome, itself coined in the 1920s by Hans Winkler and derived from parts of Greek and Latin roots related to origin and body. In Hungarian, possessive suffixes attach to nouns to indicate ownership, and the definite direct-object suffix -t is added when the object is definite.
