Generasuch

Generasuch is a genus of extinct archosaurs that lived during the Late Triassic period. The genus was first described by Paul Sereno in 1991, and the name translates to "general lizard" in Latin.

Fossils of Generasuch have been found in North America and South America, with discoveries in Arizona and Mexico. The genus is characterized by its distinctive crocodile-like snout and robust build. Generasuch is thought to have been an herbivore, based on its beaked and toothless jaw, which is indicative of a plant-eating diet.

Generasuch is a member of the group Archosauria, which includes crocodiles, birds, and their extinct relatives. The genus is often included within the subgroup Pseudosuchia, which consists of archosaurs that are more closely related to crocodiles than to dinosaurs. Generasuch is considered a relatively primitive representative of this group, with many of its characteristics bearing a strong resemblance to those of early archosaurs.

Generasuch is estimated to have lived during the Norian stage of the Late Triassic period, around 216-207 million years ago. The genus is often compared to its contemporary, Teratosaurus, although the two are not closely related. Additional discoveries and research may help to shed more light on the biology and ecology of Generasuch, but currently, it remains an intriguing and enigmatic part of the archosaur fossil record.
