Geirröðrs

Geirröðrs is a figure in Norse mythology, primarily known as a Jotnar king. He appears in the Skáldskaparmál section of the Prose Edda. Geirröðrs is depicted as a powerful and often cruel ruler, residing in his hall in Jotunheim. The most prominent story involving him is Thor's visit to his realm.

Thor, along with Loki, travels to Geirröðrs' land. Loki had previously told Thor that Geirröðrs was friendly and would offer them hospitality, but this was a deception orchestrated by Geirröðrs himself. Upon arrival, Geirröðrs' daughters, attempting to protect their father, threw molten iron at Thor. Thor, in his rage, killed them with his hammer Mjolnir.

Geirröðrs then subjected Thor to a series of trials designed to kill him. He had Thor endure extreme heat and then attempted to kill him by seating him on a stool that was magically raised towards the rafters of his hall. However, Thor's strength and his magical belt, Megingjord, allowed him to survive. In the end, Thor killed Geirröðrs by throwing Mjolnir at him, striking him in the chest. Geirröðrs' daughters were also killed by Thor during his ordeal. The tale highlights Thor's immense strength and his role as a protector against the giants.
