GateTreiberICs

GateTreiberICs are integrated circuits that generate the gate drive signals required to switch power semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs and IGBTs in power electronics. They provide appropriate gate voltage levels, timing, and protection to ensure reliable switching and to prevent cross-conduction.

Most gateTreiberICs offer high-side and low-side drive capabilities, often in a half-bridge or full-bridge configuration. High-side drivers typically use a bootstrap capacitor or an isolated power supply to provide a floating gate voltage relative to the switching node. GateTreiberICs also implement features such as dead-time control, shoot-through protection, undervoltage lockout, and overcurrent or overtemperature protection. Some devices include galvanic isolation between the input logic side and the gate output, using optical, transformer, or capacitive isolation.

GateTreiberICs vary in drive strength and speed, input logic compatibility, supply voltage range, and isolation rating. They can be standalone devices or integrated into more complex motor control or power conversion ICs. Applications include switch-mode power supplies, DC-DC converters, motor drives (BLDC, PMSM, and induction motors), solar inverters, and automotive power electronics. When selecting a gate driver, engineers consider the required gate charge, switching frequency, the voltage and isolation requirements, thermal conditions, protection features, and packaging.
