Gaswirtschaftsgesetz

Gaswirtschaftsgesetz is the name of a German federal law that historically governed the natural gas sector. The act established the framework for the organization, operation and regulation of gas supply and gas networks, including the activities of gas suppliers, network operators and storage facilities. It aimed to ensure reliable gas provision, safe operation of gas infrastructure and fair access to the gas grid for market participants.

Core provisions of the Gaswirtschaftsgesetz covered licensing and registration of gas undertakings, non-discriminatory access to gas networks for third parties, and the terms and conditions for network use. The law addressed the operation and maintenance of transmission and distribution networks, metering, billing, and consumer protections.
