Gasstötdämpare

Gasstötdämpare, often referred to as gas struts or gas springs, are mechanical devices that use compressed gas and a hydraulic fluid to provide a controlled force and damping effect. They are commonly found in applications where a component needs to be lifted, held in position, or gently lowered.

The fundamental principle behind a gasstötdämpare involves a sealed cylinder containing a piston rod. Inside the cylinder, compressed nitrogen gas exerts pressure. This pressure acts on the piston, pushing the rod outwards. A small amount of hydraulic oil is also present to control the speed of extension and compression, providing a damping action. When the rod is pushed back into the cylinder, the gas is compressed further, and the oil is forced through small orifices, dissipating energy and slowing the movement.

These devices offer several advantages. They are relatively lightweight, require minimal maintenance, and provide a smooth, controlled motion. The force exerted by a gasstötdämpare can be precisely calibrated during manufacturing to suit specific application needs, such as lifting heavy liftgates on vehicles, supporting cabinet doors, or assisting with the operation of adjustable furniture. They are also valued for their ability to hold a position securely without the need for external latches or supports. The sealed nature of the cylinder ensures consistent performance over time and in various environmental conditions.
