Gammasteikoids
Gammasteikoids are a theoretical class of organic molecules that combine structural features of gamma-lactones and steroids. A gamma-lactone is a cyclic ester where the carbonyl group is separated from the ester oxygen by three carbon atoms. Steroids are characterized by a core structure of four fused carbon rings: three cyclohexane rings and one cyclopentane ring. In gammasteikoids, it is hypothesized that a gamma-lactone ring is integrated into or appended to the steroid nucleus.
The specific arrangement and location of the gamma-lactone moiety within the steroid framework would define different
