Galtybeg

Galtybeg is a mountain peak in the Galty Mountains, on the border between County Limerick and County Tipperary in Ireland. It is the smaller of the two principal summits in the range, lying to the southeast of Galtymore, which is the highest peak in the group. The Galty Mountains are part of the southeast Irish uplands and are a popular destination for hillwalkers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Geography and landscape residents describe the slopes of Galtybeg as grassy with rocky outcrops. The range itself forms part of the Midlands–South of Ireland upland area, offering expansive views on clear days over the surrounding countryside, including the valley floors and patchwork farmland of the region. The terrain is typical of Irish uplands, featuring rough tracks, open bog, and intermittent stone walls.

Access and use: Galtybeg is often visited as part of longer ridge routes that connect it with Galtymore and other summits in the range. Routes are largely unmarked and traversing terrain can be exposed to changing weather, so good navigation, appropriate gear, and preparation are essential for walkers. The peak is used for day hikes and treks, with popular start points typically located to the surrounding valleys and lanes in the region.
