Galictids
Galictids are an extinct subfamily of procyonids, a group of mammals that includes raccoons and coatis. They were native to the Americas and existed during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. Galictids were characterized by their small to medium size and a generally more gracile build compared to modern procyonids. Their diet is believed to have been omnivorous, with a focus on insects, small vertebrates, and plant matter, similar to many of their living relatives. Fossil evidence suggests they inhabited a variety of environments, from forests to more open woodlands.
The fossil record of galictids is primarily found in North and South America, indicating a widespread distribution
